Free open-source tools without subscription traps

Open Free Tools collects useful browser-first tools that stay free, open-source, and practical. The first live project is MIDI Piano Trainer, with audio-to-MIDI conversion already in progress.

A storefront for free tools

This website is the public front door for the project: it explains what exists today, what is still beta, and why the tools are open-source.

Honest project status

MIDI Piano Trainer already works. Audio-to-MIDI is beta. Open Transcription Studio is planned. Users should see the whole direction before every feature is complete.

Why this matters

Useful creative tools often become subscription-only. Open Free Tools keeps the core workflow free, documents limits clearly, and lets people self-host or fork projects when they need control.

How it can fund itself

The project can use donations, sponsors, internal project promotion, and respectful ads on content pages. Ads should never block or confuse the working tool interface.

Roadmap

  1. Keep the hub as a complete multilingual storefront.
  2. Polish MIDI Piano Trainer and the beta Audio-to-MIDI workflow.
  3. Create useful SEO guides before applying for AdSense.
  4. Prepare feedback-first launch materials for Reddit, Discord, short videos, GitHub, Show HN, Product Hunt, and AlternativeTo.
  5. Build Open Transcription Studio as a separate future tool.

Finding the first users

Early users should come from focused communities and short demos, not only from Google. Every launch post should ask for feedback, disclose authorship, and avoid spam.
